This inspector legal & ethics and standards of practice review curriculum was developed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) with the assistance of a content writing group using information from publications, presentations, and general research.

This eight-hour course covers legal and ethical aspects of inspection practices in Texas, with an emphasis on TREC rules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and their real-world applications. The course content serves the public interest by ensuring that consumers are protected by inspectors who know and comply with the requirements and laws, while helping inspectors uphold the professionalism and ethical reputation of the state’s home inspection industry.

State Requirements For Texas

Home Inspection License Expiration: Every two years from date of issuance

Hours Required by the State: 32 total hours per renewal cycle, Must include the 8-hour Inspector Legal & Ethics and SOP Review course.

Reporting: The state requires course completions to be reported to the state. We will report your course to the state upon completion 

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon course completions, AHIT will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.
