Is the Ohio home inspector course state-approved?

Yes. The Ohio home inspector course from AHIT is approved by the State of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools (School Registration No: 1824) to offer postsecondary home inspector education in Ohio. The course covers the 80 hours of pre-license education required by the Ohio Department of Commerce, plus Ohio home inspector Standards of Practice and report writing.

How long does it take to complete the Ohio home inspector course?

Most Ohio candidates complete the online AHIT coursework in 4 to 8 weeks at a part-time pace. The 40-hour Curriculum of Experience or 10 parallel inspections are scheduled separately and typically add 2 to 4 weeks depending on availability. Your total timeline depends on your study schedule, field training availability, and how quickly you move through the Division's licensing process.

The online pre-license portion is self-paced and entirely online. After completing your AHIT coursework and Ohio's field training requirement, you'll register for and pass the NHIE, then submit your application to the Ohio Department of Commerce.
